Do I need a referral to call a chiropractor?

Calling the office and verifying coverage are separate

Being able to make an appointment does not guarantee that a health plan will pay. Ask:

  • Is chiropractic care covered?
  • Is a referral required?
  • Is the clinic in network?
  • Is prior authorization required?
  • Are there visit limits or a deductible?

For an auto claim, ask separate questions about MedPay and claim documentation.

The Ohio Department of Insurance consumer pages(opens in a new tab) explain what a plan has to tell you when you ask.
